If you haven’t heard, Craftsy is a site where you can take craft courses. That’s awesome because you are able to learn from the comfort of your own home, in your pajamas if you choose, and you don’t have to go to a remote location and use your gas.

Many of the courses do cost money, but there are some free mini-courses happening right now.

The next 2 free Craftsy mini-courses I’m going to take are:
1. The Hand-Painted Cake: Elevate your cake with Erin Schaefgen’s freehand painting techniques. Create beautiful and edible works of art with Erin’s tips and tricks.
2. Modern Buttercream: Learn to use buttercream like a pro! Discover the tricks and tips to construct and create a beautifully finished buttercream cake.

Yes, I’m into cakes.

Check out the link above and let me know what courses you’d like to try out.

Review: CafePress iPhone Case (& $25 Gift Card Giveaway), Ends 5/6

Review: CafePress iPhone Case (& $25 Gift Card Giveaway), Ends 5/6

cafepress2A few months ago, I was on the phone with my mom and she was telling me about all the parents at the preschool she works at and their personalized cell phone covers.

I wonder if I can get a photo on one of my Kindle cases, she asked.

Ask and ye shall receive, they say.

On CafePress, if you can dream it, you can probably find it. Or you can design it yourself. From iPhone 5 & 4 cases to t-shirts to iPad cases & covers.

I decided that I would make my mom a personalized Kindle case for Mother’s Day, so I called my dad to do some snooping to find out if she had a hard case or a soft one. CafePress sells both and I wanted to get her what she was already using.

The next day, my dad said she uses a soft case but added, “She’s going to get a new phone, the iPhone, so maybe get her that instead.”

And in one quick sentence, my life turned into those iPhone commercials that tell you the phone is for your parents because right now, it is for mine.

I called my brother and found out my mom is planning on getting the iPhone 4, so I checked on CafePress and sure enough, you can make an iPhone case.

The personalized cases are made for you to upload one photo, but I wanted more than that. So I went to www.piZaz.com (the same site I used for our engagement photos collage) and added four photos to my collage, plus the word “Family”. I uploaded it to CafePress and ordered the case, plus an iPhone charger (can never have too many of those, right?). It was that easy. The entire “designing” process took me about 45 seconds (and that includes uploading and resizing the photo to fit the case. It was so easy!).

The case arrived wrapped in bubble wrap, which I appreciated. The case itself is a flexible soft material. That’s nicer than a hard, rigid material like most cases. Those can actually break if you’re not careful with them, so this one seems to avoid that issue.

The photo itself was printed on a sticker then affixed to the actual case. I thought it would be printed directly on the case (as my personalized cell phone case from another store is), but it’s not. Because of this application, it’s a monet (yes, I’m quoting Clueless): up close it is a bit grainy but from far away, it looks great.

I know my mom is going to absolutely love it … as would your mom if you made one for her. Do you think she would want one for Mother’s Day? If you do, you’re in luck.

One lucky Drugstore Divas reader will win a $25 gift card to CafePress to order anything you’d like. The gift card can be used towards taxes and shipping, so that is great. To enter, you must be a US resident who is 18 or older, and use the Rafflecopter below. The winner will be contacted via the email left in the Rafflecopter and will have 24 hours to respond before another winner may be selected.

The giveaway starts now and ends at 11:59pm EST on May 6. Good luck.
